THE DOUKHOBOR VILLAGE MUSEUM
NEW EXHIBITS FOR 2003
In 2003, the Art Gallery/Craft Center, will feature Vladimir Gubonov, well known Russian Doukhobor artist from Georgia.
During the Arms Burning Centennial year of 1995, Vladimir traveled across Canada sketching Canadian Doukhobors from all walks of life. This collection of sketches will be featured with some additional major pieces in oil.
Artist Vladimir Petrovich Gubonov was born in the village of Orlovka, Bogdanovsky Region, Georgia. He completed his studies in 1989 at the prestigious Moscow College of Industrial Design. At the present time, he lives and works in the Southern Russian village of Nebug, where he has a studio and motel operation. He also does major sign commissions for the town when required.
The Audio Visual Gallery will feature an exhibit on Doukhobor children as they grew up from 1908 to 1938. Models, clothing, toys and educational materials of the day will be featured, as well as contemporary studies and drawings from children's books.
Both of these exhibits will run from May 1 to September 30th.
